ABOUT THE LAKE DISTRICT

INTRODUCTION TO THE LAKE DISTRICT

Perhaps your bride isn’t a big party animal or maybe being at one with nature is when she’s at her best. Either way, a hen party surrounded by the Cumbrian mountains is a fantastic way to create beautiful memories and remove any wedding stresses.

Nestled in the northwest of England, it’s not hard to see just why this region is so popular. Plan your getaway with the girls amidst beautiful nature, breathtaking views, and very friendly locals.  Choose from a range of adrenaline activities such as kayaking, canoeing, hiking and more, or take it easy in one of the area’s five-star spas. Of course, there’s plenty of fantastic food and drink establishments too. Pack away your heels and strap on some walking boots – at least for the weekend – and tantalise your tastebuds with pit stops in the local inns, gastropubs and quaint tea rooms.

One thing’s for sure, a hen weekend in the Lake District has lots of opportunities and your bride-to-be is sure to be impressed – whether she’s a thrillseeker or a chill seeker.

HOW TO GET TO THE LAKE DISTRICT

If you’re thinking about heading to the Lake District, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s easily accessible via both car and train. There’s also lots of buses and coaches but this can take slightly longer. Once there, you have the option of exploring on foot or hiring a car for the weekend. There’s lots of local taxi firms and the towns themselves are packed with everything you need for a celebration – if you do want to go without a hire car and use the money for extra bottles of fizz. We know which one we’d opt for…

BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN THE LAKE DISTRICT FOR HEN GROUPS

Lake District National Park

Boasting the UK’s largest lakes and tallest peaks, the Lake District National Park is breathtakingly beautiful. The scenery and nature are known to have inspired many including artists, writers, and poets so you know your girls will not be disappointed. Spend your days wandering around the hiking trails, enjoying a boat ride and taking it slow with your besties in tow. Some of our favourite things to do include spa days, champagne picnics and afternoon tea in one of the quaint villages.

Windermere

Windmere is the busiest of the Lakes and you can explore it up close and personal with the Windermere Lake Cruises. The village itself also has lots of attractions and plenty of bars and restaurants for a relatively small area. If you’re looking to do a little sightseeing, why not use the ferry to visit the restored Victorian Fell Foot Park that’s near Newby Bridge? Here, you can picnic and hire rowing boats – just don’t forget to pack the fizz.

Ambleside

Known as ‘the jewel in the crown’, Ambleside really is as beautiful as you might expect. Aside from breathtaking scenery, it also offers just about everything you would need on your visit. It has numerous shops, drinking and eating establishments, and plenty of walking trails. Whether interested in keeping active, learning about the area’s past or simply wanting to sit back and taste the local gins, there’s something for everyone here.

Restaurants and bars

While a hen party in the Lake District might not be as lively as one in the nearby cities, there’s still a great after-hours scene. In fact, we’d go as far to say that for nightlife, towns such as Ambleside and Keswick will rival your city nights. It’s also fast becoming a popular foodie destination – with a wide variety of quality restaurants, bars, and even award-winning pubs to crawl. Your girls will have plenty of options to let go and have fun, and we’re sure you’ll find a live music night to dance away to.

BEST HEN GROUP ACTIVITIES IN THE LAKE DISTRICT

Nude Life Drawing

BEST FOR GETTING A BIT ARTY

Spice up your hen party with a life drawing session – which is the perfect thing to inspire some creativity and giggles along the way. In this one and a half-hour session, your model of choice will get into a few different positions and even invite your bride-to-be up to get involved. With a few hen party games and drinks poured, it’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. You never know, maybe you might unleash some hidden talent as well?

A walk and a pub crawl

BEST FOR SEEING THE LOCAL AREA – HEN PARTY STYLE

Nothing beats a walk in the scenic Lake District and, if you want to turn it up a notch, a pub crawl is a great shout. Taste local gins, sample the ales and, if you’re hungry, why not order a few bar snacks for the group? The only thing you have to worry about is actually walking home. Failing that, we’re sure the bar staff will ring you a taxi.

Private dining experience

BEST FOR FEELING BOUJEE

What’s better than sitting back after a day in the Lake District countryside and allowing a great chef to take care of all your dining needs? Choose to get all glammed up or opt for a night in your jammies as you relax with your friends and enjoy fresh and local produce that’s transformed into delicious dishes. What’s more, many of the chefs will even clear up afterwards. All you have to do is keep everyone’s glasses topped up.

A relaxing spa day with champagne

BEST FOR SOAKING AWAY THE WEDDING STRESSES

It wouldn’t be a hen party without a spa to pamper the girls, and the Lake District has a variety of spas that are perfect for sitting back. From award-winning treatments and outdoor pools with incredible views to champagne lunches and relaxation rooms, there really is no better way to spend a few hours. Don’t forget to tell them it’s for a special occasion though and why not order some champagne while you sit and put the world to right in the hot tub?

Heart racing watersports

BEST FOR A GUARANTEED LAUGH

It’s hardly surprising that the Lake District doesn’t have a shortage of water sports. In fact, your hen party can experience all manner of water activities from canoeing, windsurfing, sailing, and diving. Even if your bride-to-be has never tried her hand at it, it’s a guaranteed laugh. And remember, when in Rome ladies! There’s also team activities such as raft building or dragon boat racing and plenty of nearby pubs to warm up in afterwards.
