ABOUT LEEDS

INTRODUCTION TO LEEDS

Looking for a traditional hen party that involves plenty of fun, lots of drinks and a few late night dancing sessions? The northern city of Leeds won’t disappoint. And, there’s plenty more to it than just a fantastic nightlife. It’s a university city which means the atmosphere here is always buzzing – whatever time of day you’re out and about. It’s also packed with history and has lots of opportunities for shopping, theatre, comedy, culture and entertainment. The city itself also has many parks and gardens which are ideal for a boozy picnic or a relaxing walk, and close by you’ll find the Yorkshire Dales and places like Harrogate and York – which are definitely worth a visit.

With such a variety of things to do, it’s no surprise that Leeds is so popular with hen parties of all sizes and ages. Whether into food, sport, music or a little bit of everything, a hen party in Leeds doesn’t leave anyone out.

HOW TO GET TO LEEDS

All your hens will thank you for choosing Leeds as your hen party destination. Not just because it’s such a fun place but also because it’s really easy to get to. From London, it takes just two hours on the train, those from Manchester can be there within an hour and from Scotland or other northern cities, you can be there in just a couple of hours too. The city is also at the heart of the motorway network so can be easily reached by bus, coach and car. And once you’re there, there’s a fantastic bus and taxi system and you’ll soon get the hang of the streets if you choose to walk.

BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN LEEDS

Call Lane

For the ultimate night out, you’ve got to head to Call Lane or the Calls. It’s a popular area by the River Aire, in the city centre, which is home to plenty of bars, clubs and restaurants. In fact, many people would say it’s THE place to go. Some of the most popular haunts include Call Lane Social, Cuckoo and Tiki Hideaway. At the weekend, this part of Leeds is buzzing and the bars will have no problem with you wearing a few of your most tacky hen party paraphernalia…

Victoria Quarter

The Victoria Quarter is Leeds’ beautiful shopping district and is recognised as one of the best in the North of England. It’s unlike any other shopping centre as it’s made with marble, mosaics and polished materials. Here, you’ll find brands like Vivienne Westwood, Ted Baker, French Connection, Space NK, Coach, Hobbs and Jigsaw, and it’s also home to the first Harvey Nichols store outside of London. There’s also a fantastic champagne bar for when shopping gets too much!

Trinity Centre

Another popular area of Leeds is the Trinity Centre – and not just because of its shops. Widely known as a shopping and leisure destination, it houses over 120 shops and bars and is the biggest in the city. Spend a few hours perusing the stores, enjoy a personal shopping experience and then head to one of the many bars and restaurants and indulge in some fizz and olives. Pure bliss.

Shopping

We might have already mentioned some of the best places to go for shopping but retail therapy in Leeds is so good that it deserves its own section. You see, the city is so compact that you can easily walk around all of the districts and centres in one day. And if you’re looking for something alternative, you’ll be pleased to know that the Kirkgate Market has been attracting locals and visitors for years. With hundreds of shops in the city centre to choose from, you might want to set yourself a budget though…

Restaurants and bars

From cocktails to wine, tapas to turkish, Leeds really does cater for the masses. In fact, there’s even some completely unique bars to choose from. Think hidden boltholes, ping pong party houses, sultry speakeasies and rooftop spots. Our favourites for large groups include Bundobust, Belgrave Music Hall, The Alchemist and Indian Tiffin Room. One thing’s for sure, even the fussiest of eaters won’t go hungry here.

Life drawing

BEST FOR ALL THE AGES

We get it. The idea of sketching a naked man while you’re sitting opposite your bride’s nan and next to her mum might not seem like a great idea. But trust us. This fun and classy hen party activity is a guaranteed crowd pleaser, and a laugh from start to finish. Even better, your bride will be invited up to get involved in the last shot and you’ll even get to take your masterpieces home. Oh, and did we mention drinking games are involved to get the party started?

Cocktail making masterclass

BEST FOR GETTING THE NIGHT STARTED

An even better way to enjoy cocktails is to make them yourself with a group of friends. Grab a shaker and get behind the bar and come up with some fun recipes while releasing a little friendly competition to see who can make the best. Not only is it a great activity to get the night started but you might even come away with some skills to use at home. Some of our favourite cocktail bars in the city include The Botanist, The Maven, Thewlis, Bar Soba, and Mojo.

Go To The Theatre

BEST FOR GLAMMED UP

Looking for a night out, but away from the loud and boisterous nightclubs? A trip to the theatre and a champagne dinner is a great shout. What’s more, there’s plenty of shows to choose from – including drama, comedy, thriller, and even musicals. Book in advance or turn up on the day to see which deals can be had, and don’t forget to pack your best dress. Our favourite venues are Leeds Playhouse, Leeds Grand Theatre and Carriageworks Theatre

A spa day

BEST FOR RELAXING

It really wouldn’t be a weekend away without a trip to a luxury spa to relax and unwind, would it?! Treat your bride to a day of pampering, arrange some champagne for while you’re in the jacuzzi and book afternoon tea to be enjoyed in your robes. If you’re looking for spas in Leeds with great reviews, there’s plenty to choose from.

Personal shopping experience

BEST FOR A LUXURY FEEL

Is there anything better than chocolate? In this hen party activity, you can learn from an expert chocolatier and make your own treats! This is a deliciously indulgent activity, perfect for anyone who loves chocolate. You’ll be able to take home a goody bag of your own handmade goodies, making a perfect gift or treat for yourself! Even better, why not head somewhere for a boozy lunch afterwards to keep your tastebuds tantalised?!
