ABOUT THE PEAK DISTRICT
INTRODUCTION TO THE PEAK DISTRICT
Nestled next to Derbyshire, the Peak District boasts some of the most scenic views around. With natural beauty, rivers, moors and dales, there are plenty of things to do during your weekend break with the girls. Famed for its bustling market towns, pretty villages and rich history, if you’re planning a celebration for all ages, it’s got to be here. Spend the morning exploring the great outdoors, before warming up with some tasty food in one of the area’s renowned gastro pubs. With a packed annual events calendar, why not try and coincide your weekend with the Chatsworth Country Fair or Matlock Bath Illuminations? Ideally located in the midlands, the Peak District will please guests coming from all over.
HOW TO GET TO THE PEAK DISTRICT
Getting to the Peak District couldn’t be easier by train or bus, with regular transport links from the UK’s best-loved cities. Once here, you’ll be pleased to hear the area enjoys an extensive public transport network. In the summer months, there’s also a ‘hop on hop off’ Hope Valley Explorer bus – no one needs to know you’ve got fizz in your flask…
BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN THE PEAK DISTRICT FOR HEN GROUPS
Bakewell
It’s the birthplace of the Bakewell Tart. Need we say more? Of course, there’s other reasons to visit this lovely village though. It’s steeped in history, packed with perfect picture opportunities and home to a number of traditional cafes and pubs.
Matlock Bath
Matlock Bath is ideal for mixed groups. Why? Because the thrill-seekers amongst you can head to Gulliver’s Kingdom Theme Park – it might be geared for children but there’s still plenty of rides that will make you scream! Meanwhile, the other half of your group can head to the Heights of Abraham. Take a cable car up to the top of Masson Hill, look out over the Peaks and of course, get that insta shot… There’s plenty of pubs nearby for you to rejoin forces in too.
Sheffield
Although the city itself might not be classed as being in the Peak District, its surrounding countryside is. After a day exploring, perhaps you’re after somewhere to let your hair down and celebrate your last bit of freedom in true hen party style? Sheffield will not disappoint.
Shopping
It might be most famous for its countryside but the Peak District also has a fantastic retail scene. For the ultimate shopping spree, it’s got to be Intu Derby or East Midlands Designer Outlet. However, Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock Bath are also home to a range of independent stores for that little something special. Many of the local villages and towns also boast a weekly market. So whether you want to get a keepsake or fancy a nice bottle of vino for the evening’s celebrations, you won’t be disappointed.
Restaurants & Food
The foodies amongst you will be delighted. The Peak District boasts plenty of farmers’ markets, cosy pubs, farm shops and mouth-watering restaurants. For a casual sweet treat, head to one of the local tea rooms and cafes, and in the evening you can’t do better than one of the incredible gastro pubs. For something truly memorable, why not visit Fischers of Baslow Hall for a fine dining experience?
BEST HEN GROUP ACTIVITIES IN THE PEAK DISTRICT
A guided tour
BEST FOR TAKING IN THOSE SCENES
You can’t come to somewhere as beautiful as the Peak District and spend the entire time in pubs – despite how good that sounds! Take part in a guided walking tour and take in all those incredible views. If walking’s not for you, let a professional do all the hard work and book onto a driving tour. Ask them nicely and we’re sure they’d drop you off at a pub afterwards…
Nude life drawing
BEST FOR A CHEAP LAUGH
Is there anything better than embarrassing your friends? Nude Life drawing puts the art into the party with a unique and fun activity that definitely won’t be forgotten in a hurry. Your private session will begin with a few drinking games and end with your bride posing with the naked model. It’s a great activity that guarantees loads of fun. The best bit? You can arrange it in your own accommodation.
A distillery tour
BEST FOR HAVING AN EXCUSE TO GET DRUNK IN THE DAY
Beer, ale, gin, cider – whatever your drink of choice is, you’ll be pleased to know there’s a distillery tour to suit. Find out how exactly it’s made, watch the distillers in action and pretend you’ve learnt a heap of information while tasting the goods at the end.
A spa day
BEST FOR RELAXING AFTER A DAY OF ADVENTURES
Whether you’ve been busy exploring the surrounding areas or your feet are tired from hours of shopping, a spa day is definitely well-deserved. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a glass of bubbles in the hot tub, indulge in a little pampering and put the world to right by the indoor pool.
A night at the theatre
BEST FOR GLAMMING UP
From Buxton Opera Theatre to Derby LIVE, there are plenty of venues close by. Choose from a comedy, live music or drama performance. Of course, you can make the evening even more special by ringing ahead and ordering some fizz for half time. Don’t forget to pack snacks for the show!
A craft day
BEST FOR GETTING CREATIVE AND MAKING A LITTLE KEEPSAKE
Your hen party is a great excuse for getting all the girls together, and some you might not have seen for yonks. So instead of getting drunk (that can happen later) why not start the weekend off in a calmer way? From fascinator-making to flower crown designing, The Crafty Hen will be loved by all your guests.
A night in with a private chef
BEST FOR FEELING LIKE A CELEB
A hen weekend in The Peak District might not have you out until 4am doing vodka shots but it doesn’t have to be boring. Grab all your friends, set up a cocktail bar in the comfort of your hen party holiday home and welcome your very own private chef into the dining room. Not only will they create a delicious meal but often tidying the dining table afterward is included – it’s a win-win! This must be what it’s like to be famous, right?!
